About the Artist
-
Born in Peekskill, New York, Joanne Barthelmes grew up in the Hudson River valley entranced by its highland landscape. She received her B.A. from SUNY Oswego where her studio focus was in printmaking. An affinity for the immediacy and intimacy of mark making led to Joanne earning her M.F.A. in drawing at the University of Tennessee. For over two decades she has made her pastel and acrylic drawings from subject matter informed by her woods in upstate New York.
A short feature of Joanne was produced by WSKG for the PBS program Artist Cafe. It can be viewed at http://wskg.org/arts/visual-artist-joanne-barthelmes/.
